Man arrested after incident at “Rednecks with Paychecks” event

MONTAGUE COUNTY, Texas (KAUZ) – 35-year-old Johnathan Earl Reid was booked into the Montague County Jail following an incident at a “Rednecks with Paychecks” event.

Montague County Sheriff Thomas said the incident began after Reid was approached about hitting a vehicle. In response, Reid pulled over two vehicles. Sheriff Thomas said Reid continued to hit other vehicles and chase people after the incident.

Two people who were taking cover behind one of the vehicles were struck. One suffered a shoulder injury and the other a concussion. Both were taken to Muenster Hospital, according to the Montague County Sheriff's Office.

Reid was charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle.

Sheriff Thomas also noted that Reid was intoxicated during the incident and said the Sheriff's Department is considering charging the organizer because he did not have a permit for a mass gathering.

Sheriff Thomas said that despite the controversial past, the event was still allowed to take place because it was a private event and admission was required.

“Half the people want it, half don’t.”
