Mother of teenage murder suspect says home surveillance video proves her son's innocence

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (KLFY) — The mother of a 17-year-old charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting at a Lafayette hair salon says her son is innocent and home surveillance video can prove it.

Jeffrey Broussard was the first of three suspects arrested in connection with the death of 19 years old Quincy Duhon Jr. and 48 years old Johnny Trailer Jr. The Shooting occurred on Saturday, August 31, at around 9 a.m. at a hair salon on Louisiana Avenue between Mudd Avenue and Simcoe Street.

Broussard and the other two suspects, 17-year-old Shylon Mouton And 23-year-old Abram LandryThey are both accused of two counts of premeditated murder.

Broussard's mother said authorities arrested the wrong person and that surveillance video from a relative's home could prove he had a solid alibi.

She said her son arrived at his grandmother's house around 4 a.m. and the video shows him entering the house. Broussard is later seen heading outside to meet friends just before noon.

“Yes, he had no shirt on and was wearing the same sweatpants he wore when he walked into the house,” Broussard's mother said.

The mother said her deepest sympathy went out to the families of the victims, but she was determined to prove that her son was not there.

“When we said we had video footage proving he had a solid alibi, they (the police) started arresting more people,” Broussard's mother said.

Broussard's aunt, his godmother, wants the shooter caught and wants to prevent her nephew from being involved in a crime she says he did not commit.

“I pray they find her because the family deserves this, but my nephew deserves justice too,” Broussard's aunt said.
