Teenager charged as adult after fatal family dispute in Duchesne County

The teenager who was taken into custody following the death of another teenager during a family dispute in Duchesne County has been charged as an adult.

According to court documents filed Monday, 16-year-old Haegan Ray Sagers was charged with first-degree murder and illegal discharge of a firearm.

The documents were filed by the Duchesne County District Attorney's Office.

Sheriff's office officials were called to a home in the northwest part of the county after reports of a family dispute.

When they reached the house, they found the body of a boy outside. They said he died from a gunshot wound to the upper body, but gave no further details.

According to court documents, the victim was 14 years old.

Officers were able to locate Sagers and he was taken to the Split Mountain Youth Detention Center in Vernal.

The sheriff's office posted about Sagers on its Facebook page in July when he was reported missing.

At the time, they wrote that Sagers was “a sweet, loving boy who has a heart of gold and will help and talk to anyone who gives him the opportunity.”

Further details about the nature of the family dispute and the circumstances leading to the incident were not disclosed.
