Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only a reasonable suspicion to believe that a crime has been committed. Defendants are presumed innocent throughout the trial and are entitled to legal representation and to a jury trial, where the State is required to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt before a verdict of guilt can be entered.
