Sewage tanker overturns after accident, driver dies

COSTA MESA, Calif. (WKRC) – A sewage suction tanker overturned after an accident, killing the driver.

The Costa Mesa Police Department released a statement on its official X-account on Monday saying police and firefighters had arrived at the scene of a fatal traffic accident.

“The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The intersection is expected to be closed for approximately six hours for investigation and cleanup,” authorities wrote.

According to KTLA, the driver, whose identity is still unknown, was struck from the side by a small SUV after entering the intersection. Authorities told the station they believe the driver violated a red light.

“At this time, the investigation appears to indicate that the driver of the sewage vacuum truck failed to run a red light,” police Sergeant Jared Barnes told KTLA.

A task force was called to the scene of the accident because sewage had run onto the street.
