Police: Woman killed, 2 injured in accident in northeast Columbus

The accident occurred at the intersection of Woodland and East 17th Avenue at approximately 12:55 a.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman is dead and two other people were injured after a two-vehicle crash in northeast Columbus early Tuesday morning, police said.

At approximately 12:55 a.m., officers from the Columbus Division of Police were called to the intersection of Woodland and East 17th Avenue for a report of an accident with injuries. On the northeast side of the intersection, officers found a tan sedan and a red sedan that were heavily damaged.

According to police, surveillance video showed that before the crash, the red sedan was traveling north on Woodland Avenue toward the intersection and attempted to turn west onto East 17th Avenue on a red light. The red sedan was then struck from the side by the tan sedan, which was traveling east on East 17th Avenue on a green light.

The driver of the tan sedan, who police said was a man, was taken to Grant Medical Center and was described as stable in condition.

The driver of the red sedan, who police said was a woman, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. She was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and later died at 1:43 a.m.

Another woman was a passenger in the red sedan and was also taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said the intersection would remain closed while the accident scene was investigated.
