Cleveland Avenue murder suspect arrested after week on the run

A suspect wanted in the alleged murder of a man in northeast Columbus has been arrested.

Deontae Daniel, 25, now appears on the Franklin County Sheriff's website, where he is listed as being held at the Jackson Pike Correctional Facility.

Daniel was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Cordell Tatney, which occurred on September 16 in the 4200 block of Cleveland Avenue.

According to officials, Tatney was visiting a friend when Daniel arrived at the friend's apartment with an unnamed man. They also stated that Tatney and Daniel had an ongoing argument.

The indictment states that a witness saw Daniel and the unknown man leave the apartment for a while and return shortly afterwards.

The witness stated that the unnamed man was with Daniel when the shots were fired. In the documents, the witness stated that he did not know who fired the shots.

A second witness said he saw Daniel and the unknown suspect go into the apartment, then they heard gunshots before they saw Daniel run out of the apartment with a firearm in his hand. The witness also said he heard Daniel make a statement saying he shot the victim.

According to police, two small children, both under the age of two, were present at the shooting. The investigation revealed that Daniel knew they were there.
