I-65 South in Louisville closed Tuesday morning due to semi-trailer accident

LMPD officials say the ramp from I-65 North to I-64 West is also currently closed.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – I-65 South is closed near the Kennedy Bridge in downtown Louisville Tuesday morning. The ramp from I-65 North to I-64 West is also currently closed.

At around 3:30 a.m., LMPD responded to a semi-truck crash on I-65 South, just south of the Kennedy Bridge, according to an LMPD news release.

On site, officers determined that the accident was a single vehicle accident. A semi-trailer truck was involved, which had skidded and part of the driver's cabin had come to rest on its side on the retaining wall.

The driver, an adult male, was able to exit safely and spoke with officers. Authorities say the man was not injured.

The LMPD First Division is investigating this collision. The cause of the collision is unknown.

I-65 South just past the Kennedy Bridge is closed and will be closed for part of the morning rush hour, LMPD officials say. There is a large amount of diesel fuel that will need to be cleaned up after the vehicle is recovered. Both semi-trailer tanks separated from the truck when it skidded.

The ramp from 65 North to I-64 West is also currently closed due to debris and diesel fuel coming from the road above.

Police advise drivers to slow down and avoid the area until the accident scene is cleared.
