The trial of the Columbia man accused of double murder is scheduled to begin Tuesday.

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

The jury trial of Cadilac Derrick, 37, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Boone County Courthouse.

Derrick was arrested in November 2022 in connection with a double murder.

The two victims of the shooting were Lea'johna Sanders, 22, and Laura Myers, 53, both of Columbia. According to the probable cause statement, officers found a baby in the apartment.

The statement also said Derrick is the father of a toddler with one of the women.

Police were called to the scene when a woman told officers that Derrick had refused to give her house keys and had been abusive to her. She also said Derrick had threatened her.

According to the documents, after the shooting, dispatchers heard gunshots and the voice of a man saying, among other things, “and now.”

Derrick has been accused of domestic violence in the past, he had already been charged with domestic violence and child endangerment and was on probation at the time for disturbing the peace.

According to the statement, Derrick told police the women shot at him and after a struggle over the gun, Derrick started shooting. It was not clear who he allegedly fought with – the names of the victims are redacted in the police statement.

Derrick has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action. Judge J. Hasbrouck Jacobs will preside over the case.
