Victims of West Babylon plane crash fight for their lives as community comes together in prayer

WEST BABYLON, NY — A Long Island community gathered again Monday to support families affected by a tragic accident this weekend in West Babylon Two people died and four young people were seriously injured.

Just steps from Good Samaritan Hospital, where 17-year-old Bella Trezza is fighting for her life, her school joined in the fight with prayers at a vigil at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School.

“To pray for healing, to pray for the power of God for Bella,” said school principal Vincent Albrecht.

The high school graduate and aspiring nurse, known as a radiant ray of sunshine, is on artificial respiration.

“She is in our hearts. The children at school wear these little bows for Bella because they love her so much,” Albrecht said.

Siblings Bella and Austin Trezza remain in hospital

According to a GoFundMe page, Trezza was driving her brother and some friends home from a party around 1 a.m. Saturday when they were struck from the side of the car. Police said 33-year-old Michael Desmond ran a red light and crashed into the car. He was killed in the accident.

Trezza's brother Austin, a West Babylon High School graduate and fire department volunteer, is also in the hospital.

“Austin is an amazing young man with a bright future,” said West Babylon Fire Chief Steven Kamalic.

Her emotional father was embraced by vigil attendees in a night of reflection that friends said was needed.

“I feel like this has brought us together and that Bella is getting stronger through our prayers,” said junior Callie Missig.
