Man in hospital with life-threatening injuries after accident

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following an accident on a main road in West Sussex.

According to Sussex Police, the crash involved a blue Yamaha motorbike and a white Ford Transit Connect on the A27 westbound near Clapham at 5.17pm (BST) on Monday.

The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man from Worthing, was taken to hospital where he remains.

The driver of the van, a 62-year-old man from Waterlooville in Hampshire, was uninjured.

Following the accident, Sussex Police closed a section of the road for several hours to allow recovery and forensic examination.

West Sussex fire and rescue services were also on site.

A fire service spokesman said: “Joint Fire Control dispatched two fire engines from Worthing and one from East Preston to the scene.

“The road was closed in both directions to allow the rescue helicopter to arrive and to enable the crews to work safely.”

Sussex Police added: “We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding.”
