Fatal car accident on Monday evening in Amherst

Amherst Police responded to a fatal car crash at the intersection of Sheridan Drive and Esjay Road at 9:40 p.m. Monday evening.

AMHERST, N.Y. – Amherst Police responded to a fatal car crash on Sheridan Drive and Esjay Road Monday evening.

The emergency call to the police was received at around 9.40 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a 2019 Honda CRV turning west on Sheridan Drive onto Esjay Road heading south collide with a 2008 Chevy Impala traveling east on Sheridan Drive.

After the collision, the Impala burst into flames. The driver of the Impala, a 23-year-old man from Williamsville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda CRV, a 35-year-old man from Amherst, was taken to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries. Also in the CRV was a 3-year-old passenger who was taken to ECMC with critical injuries. The child was later taken to Oishei Hospital, where he is now in critical but stable condition.

No charges have been filed so far.

Amherst Police are investigating the cause of the accident and are asking witnesses with dashboard camera footage of the accident scene or incident to contact them at (716)-689-1311.

Amherst Police were assisted at the scene by Main Transit Fire Department and Twin City Ambulance.
