I Can Fight Cancer Beer Festival October 5th – PorchDrinking.com

Craft beer enthusiasts can attend countless festivals. Many of them are just for fun. Some support great causes. But few seem to be driven by as much passion, love, and determination as the I Can Fight Cancer Beer Festival, which picks up where F*ck Cancer left off last year.

The Mission

Beer lovers who purchase tickets to the I Can Fight Cancer Beer Festival on Saturday, October 5 at the Village Green in Rancho Cordova, California, will be supporting the Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation. The organization is celebrating its 20th anniversary and supports people with breast cancer in the greater Sacramento area by providing life-saving breast cancer testing, prevention education, advocacy and compassionate support.

Where it all began

It started last year as “F*ck Cancer”including four breweries, each of which released a specially brewed beer during one of the four weeks of the fundraiser. Each brewery's release was a fundraiser and an opportunity for participants to gather with friends while supporting both a great cause and a truly incredible force in Steve Hayer. F*ck Cancer raised over $9,500 for Albie Aware in 2023.

In just one year, the former “F*ck Cancer” fundraiser has gone from collaborations and beer releases to a real beer festival. More than 35 breweries are participating in this year's “I Can Fight Cancer Beer Festival,” and 20 of them are bringing a special VIP beer.

The visionary

So who is behind this festival? Steve Hayer is the driving force behind the mission, as he continues his commitment to honor his late mother by hosting the F*ck Cancer fundraiser last year. Although he has the support of friends, Hayer's greatest achievement has been making the festival a reality. Hayer is a founding member of the Sacramento Beer Enthusiasts, a 21,000-member Facebook group that provides its members with a positive platform to discuss what they like about craft beer.
