GRAND ISLAND – A woman was arrested Monday evening, Sept. 23, for resisting arrest, causing a public nuisance and spitting in the face of a doctor.

According to Grand Island police, officers were called to the 1300 block of South Sylvan Street at 10:13 p.m. for a domestic dispute incident in which a woman was reportedly screaming.

The woman, later identified as Vanessa Hanson, was contacted and was behaving “very erratically,” according to GIPD.

Hanon initially called officers several different names when questioned. She behaved aggressively toward officers, clenching her fists, and attempted to back away when she was arrested.

According to GIPD, Hanson also resisted being placed in the back seat of a patrol car by pushing against the door.

Officers attempted to deescalate the situation, but Hanson did not cooperate and intentionally pulled down her pants, GIPD found. Neighbors in the area looked out their windows during the altercation and witnessed Hanson's intentional exposure.

Officers eventually struck Hanson with their knee on his left thigh to compel him to comply. Hanson was later transported to St. Francis Medical Center for a medical evaluation.

While the doctor was examining Hanson, she spat in his face, the GIPD said.

Hanson was eventually taken to the Hall County Corrections Department, where she continued to argue with jail staff.

Hanson would be arrested for obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, public nuisance, and third-degree assault on a medical professional.
