Heavier rainfall is expected in the coming week

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Happy Monday morning. We begin the new work and school week with clear skies and warm temperatures between 65 and 70 degrees.

Expect scattered patches of fog on your morning commute to work and school. Early sunshine will quickly push our highs into the high 30s and low 35s by the afternoon with a light breeze from the west. Cloud cover will increase later in the day and there will be scattered showers before sunset. Skies will remain partly cloudy overnight and lows will remain warm, around 21 degrees, until daybreak on Tuesday.

Tuesday is expected to be partly cloudy, with highs around 90 degrees. Humidity will increase thanks to a fresh southwest wind with gusts over 15 mph. Scattered to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected through the afternoon. Some thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon may be stronger, with gusty winds and frequent lightning. Wednesday is expected to be the wettest day of the week, with fairly widespread precipitation potential and a few embedded thunderstorms. Precipitation may be heavy at times throughout the day.

The forecast for Thursday and Friday appears a little less certain at this time as we continue to monitor the development of a low pressure system in the northwestern Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. This system has favorable conditions for strengthening and developing over the next few days. Models continue to show this system moving through the Gulf and making landfall sometime later this week.

We're likely to see showers and thunderstorms at least on Thursday and Friday, but exact timing and impacts are currently unknown. Please check back for the latest forecast as changes are likely over the next few days.
