The Cortland County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Cortlandville, Cincinnati and Marathon fire departments and the Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC), has announced the fall date for its medication take-back event. The event will take place this Saturday, September 28, at three locations throughout Cortland County.

These three locations are the Cortlandville Fire Department from 9 a.m. to noon, Marathon Village Green from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the Cincinnati Fire Department from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The drop-off will be drive-thru style to help community members easily and efficiently dispose of unused, unsafe, or expired medications. The take-back event also ensures that the medications are disposed of safely and kept away from youth.

For residents unable to attend the take-back event this Saturday, the sheriff's office says there are numerous drug disposal kiosks in the county. These include locations at the sheriff's office on Greenbush Street in Cortland, the Cortland Police Department on Court Street in Cortland, the Homer Police Department at 43 James Street and the SUNY Cortland Police Department at 4 Pashley Drive. All kiosks are open 24 hours a day, except for the kiosk at the Homer Police Department, which is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Liquid medications or sharp objects will not be accepted during the drug take-back campaign.
