Barcelona could lure ex-Juventus star Szczesny out of retirement after Ter Stegen's injury

According to reports from Spain, Barcelona could bring former Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny out of retirement following Marc-André ter Stegen's horrific injury.

The German goalkeeper tore his right patellar tendon in the 5-1 win over Villarreal on Sunday and is expected to be out of action for eight to nine months.

According to El Chiringuito and AS.com in Spain, former Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny is one of the possible successors Barcelona is currently considering, despite the Polish goalkeeper announcing his retirement less than a month ago.

Szczesny terminated his contract with Juventus in August, a few weeks before announcing that he was ending his football career. He had recently claimed that he would retire in 2025, but the signing of Michele Di Gregorio forced him out of Juventus a year before his contract expired.

“I wanted to play one more season because I felt I could still achieve so much, but after Juventus I wasn't ready for other challenges,” explained the former goalkeeper.

Szczesny is not the only candidate for Barcelona, who have also been linked with Keylor Navas and Tomas Vaclik. Like Szczesny, both goalkeepers are still available as they are without a club.

Szczesny, a three-time Serie A winner with Juventus, returned to Turin on Sunday to say goodbye to the Bianconeri fans ahead of a league match against Napoli.
