Young suspect arrested for threatening school in Waterbury

WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) – A 13-year-old boy was arrested for making a threatening social media post with references to several Waterbury public schools, police said.

Police said they were informed of the incident at around 11:25 p.m. on Monday.

“After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the threat was not credible,” Waterbury police said. “However, the juvenile was arrested and charged with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.”

His identity was not disclosed.

Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo emphasized the department's commitment to school safety in a press release.

“All threats against our schools are taken extremely seriously and thorough investigations are conducted to ensure the safety of students, staff and the community,” Spagnolo said. “We urge residents to report any suspicious activity or threats to police immediately. The safety of our community is our top priority and we will hold those responsible accountable for their actions.”

Waterbury Police said they remain vigilant in their efforts to protect the community and ensure a safe environment for all.
