Son of man accused of assassinating Trump arrested on child pornography charges

The son of the man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump has been arrested on child pornography charges.

A criminal complaint from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Carolina states that Oran Alexander Routh faces two federal charges: receipt and possession of child pornography.

His father, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, was arrested last Sunday after allegedly firing a high-powered rifle through a fence near where Trump was playing golf at his club in Florida.

The criminal complaint states that investigators obtained search warrants for Routh's apartment and to search the devices last weekend.

Officials said investigators found “hundreds of child pornography files” when they searched an SD card in Routh's home. These included videos that showed an adult male engaging in various sexual acts with a minor female, approximately 8 to 10 years old, according to the criminal complaint.

Investigators also said they found evidence of child pornography on a smartphone, including sexual acts and nude photographs of minors possibly as young as six years old.

According to ABC News, Routh is expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Separately, his father, Ryan Routh, was indicted last week as part of the Trump conspiracy on charges of possession of a firearm while a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison on the first charge and five years on the second.
