Barcelona reportedly contacting former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper as replacement for ter Stegen

Barcelona have approached Wojciech Szczęsny's agent, CAA Stellar, to discuss a possible deal that would bring the Polish goalkeeper out of retirement.

The La Liga side have contacted the former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper after Marc-André ter Stegen suffered a season-ending injury against Villarreal, Meczyki reports. Ter Stegen underwent successful surgery on Monday morning to repair a torn patellar tendon in his right knee.

Barcelona have Iñaki Peña as a replacement for ter Stegen, but the team is also considering other options on the free agent market. La Liga's summer transfer window is closed, meaning any potential replacements will have to be free agents.

Szczęsny, 34, ended his career as a professional footballer after winning 11 major trophies in England and Italy. He played in two of Poland's three matches at UEFA Euro 2024. “I dedicated 18 years of my life to the game, every day, with no excuses,” the goalkeeper said in an Instagram post.

Barcelona would have to convince Szczęsny to come out of retirement less than a month after his resignation.
