USPS employee arrested in Houston for fake merchant labels

HOUSTON – A Houston postal worker and another person were arrested for possessing counterfeit temporary dealer tags, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

Pierre Haynes, 30, was charged with tampering with an official document, and Akhirah Hall, 29, was charged with failing to identify a fugitive.

Haynes was identified as a USPS employee.

According to HCSO, the arrests are part of a larger investigation involving stolen checks and cards.

The Office of Inspector General of the United States Postal Service is investigating the case.

USPS OIG released the following statement:

At this time, the USPS OIG is not releasing any additional information regarding this case. Because the arrest was made by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, any release of information will be coordinated with that office.

The U.S. Postal Service employs more than 625,000 people, making it the largest civilian federal workforce in the country. This type of alleged conduct will not be tolerated at the Postal Service and the overwhelming majority of Postal Service employees, all of whom serve the public, are honest, hardworking and trustworthy individuals who would never consider engaging in any type of criminal conduct.
