Wycombe Wanderers may be without striker Dan Udoh for their EFL Cup match against Aston Villa on Tuesday evening.

The Nigerian striker, who has scored three goals in nine games since joining from Shrewsbury Town in the summer, was replaced by Kieran Sadlier after just 20 minutes in the recent 2-1 win over Cambridge United.

It has since been confirmed that his withdrawal was due to a concussion.

In the first minute of the game, he received a blow to the head during a defensive move by James Gibbons.

Following the win over the Amber Army on September 21, Bloomfield told the Free Press and BBC 3 Counties: “Dan is fine but I am not happy about the incident that led to his substitution.

“Dan has been a real diamond for us since he joined, but we have to keep an eye on him and check how he is doing.

“We have to judge that.

“Head injuries and concussions are serious, and if there's anyone who knows that, it's me, because of what's happened in my career.”

Due to head injury protocols, Udoh is unlikely to feature in the showpiece game at Adams Park, which could attract nearly 8,000 spectators.

The stands are sold out, as is the away section, as Wycombe prepare to face Villa in the competition for the first time in 19 years.

The last time the two teams met in any form was in the third round of the 2015/16 FA Cup.

A 1-1 draw in Buckinghamshire led to a replay at Villa Park ten days later, which the Premier League side won 2-0.

That year, Wanderers finished 13th, 11 points off the League Two play-off places, while Villa were relegated to the Championship after enduring their worst PL season ever – finishing bottom with just three wins.

Ahead of Tuesday's clash, Bloomfield said: “I'm really looking forward to it and proud to lead the club at this big event.”

“I thought the key for us before the Cambridge game was to capitalise on the excitement of the Villa game but not get carried away as we had things to do first.

“Everyone wants to be part of a great night against Aston Villa, but we have to remember we have three Major League games ahead of us – including two away games (Bristol Rovers and Barnsley).

“There is nothing better than seeing a full Adams Park under floodlights.

“I’m looking forward to enjoying this and making sure we can do our best.
