Suspect in Galveston County 4th District Corporal's murder transferred to Harris County Jail

HOUSTON – The suspect in the killing of a Harris County 4th Precinct deputy constable has been transferred from the Galveston County Jail to the Harris County Jail.

Athir Murady was charged with evading arrest in Galveston County and murder in Harris County in connection with the shooting of Cpl. Maher Husseini of the 4th Precinct of Harris County.

Murady is accused of shooting Husseini as he stood at a traffic light at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Fondren Road. Husseini was driving to work in his personal car when the suspected gunman got out of his car, walked toward him and began firing at Husseini's SUV.

According to a Houston police source, the gunman returned, shot Husseini again and then fled before leaving the scene.

Murady was captured after being spotted by a city marshal in Galveston. Murady fled when he realized he was being spotted, and police engaged in a brief chase.

In the area of ​​the Causeway Bridge, Murady drove his vehicle into Galveston Bay and got out. He swam in the bay before a boat came to pick him up.

A police dog bit Murady while he was being taken into custody before he was taken by ambulance under guard to UTMB John Sealy Hospital.
