Jury trial of woman charged with manslaughter in fatal car crash set for 2023

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

A jury trial has been scheduled for a woman who was charged with manslaughter in connection with a fatal car crash earlier this year in 2023.

Elizabeth Lopez of Columbia was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, and second-degree manslaughter.

A hearing is scheduled for Monday, December 9, at 9:00 a.m. and a court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

According to previous reports, Lopez was leaving an apartment complex on August 5, 2023, when she sped off in front of two motorcycles. Walker Davis, 18, of Columbia, was ejected from his motorcycle and died in the collision. Two people were ejected from the other motorcycle and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Court documents in previous reports claim Lopez turned around and returned to her apartment after the accident. Police say Lopez did not respond when they investigated and towed her Volkswagen Golf from outside her apartment.

She called police early the next morning to provide her insurance information and a statement, court documents show. Lopez reportedly told police that she told her boyfriend about the accident and had some alcohol after returning to her apartment.
