NOPD officer arrested and transferred after allegedly punching woman at CBD bar

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A New Orleans police officer was arrested and transferred after allegedly beating a woman unconscious at a Central Business District nightclub early Sunday (Sept. 22).

The NOPD said Officer Darien Crochet, 30, had been “placed on administrative duty” pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigation.

The NOPD would not say how long Crochet has been on the force or what his most recent duties were, citing the “ongoing investigation.” It was unclear how such employment details factor into the department's investigation.

Court records show Crochet was charged with second-degree assault, a misdemeanor punishable by up to eight years in prison in Louisiana if convicted.

The website NOLA.com, citing court documents, reported that Crochet was with a woman at 2 a.m. when he punched her in the face at least once, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious. The report said the woman later identified Crochet as her attacker from a photo lineup.

Crochet was released from the Orleans Justice Center jail on $7,500 bail.

Conditions of his release included that he sign a no-entry order and agree not to have any contact with the victim, other customers or employees of the Apres Lounge. Judge Juana Lombard also banned Crochet from re-entering the nightclub at 608 Fulton Street.
