Man arrested in fatal shooting charged with murder

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – A man arrested following a fatal shooting in Fargo over the weekend is now charged with murder.

Tyreik Taylor-Roberts was arrested on Saturday, September 21, and arraigned in Cass County District Court on Tuesday, September 24. He is charged with AA felony murder, as well as two misdemeanor counts of possession of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to police, Taylor-Roberts and the victim, 25-year-old Jalab Moses, knew each other. Investigators believe the two had an argument before the shooting.

According to court documents, police responded to 1341 8th Avenue North shortly after midnight for a report of shots fired. Officers who arrived on the scene found Moses lying in a parking lot south of the residence. They say he had a gunshot wound high in his chest and was bleeding from the mouth.

Life-saving measures were administered to Moses, but he died at the scene of the accident.

According to officers, Taylor-Roberts admitted to being the shooter. Court documents say he told officers, “I shot him because he was reaching for my gun. It was self-defense.”

A witness reported seeing Taylor-Roberts and another unidentified man arguing with Moses in the parking lot. The witness told officers the argument escalated and they saw Taylor-Roberts shoot Moses.

According to court documents, Moses immediately fell to the ground after the first shot. The witness said Taylor-Roberts fired a second shot at Moses while he was on the ground.

A third unidentified man left the area in a vehicle, court records say. Taylor-Roberts was interviewed by investigators and they say he admitted to firing two shots at Moses. He claims Moses walked toward him, apparently reaching for something and threatened to stab and fight him.

According to the incident report, Taylor-Roberts said he never saw Moses with a gun and no gun was found on him.

A search warrant was issued for Taylor-Roberts' apartment, where officers found a partially burned pill believed to be an M30 fentanyl pill. In the kitchen of the apartment, investigators also found a smoking device containing suspected fentanyl.

Taylor-Roberts' first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25.
