Real Madrid vs Alaves player ratings: Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo run wild but Los Blancos give up almost everything in nervy La Liga win

Carlo Ancelotti's team followed a fantastic first half with a poor second and were perhaps lucky to leave the pitch as winners.

Real Madrid started in style but ended the game in uncertainty with a thrilling 3-2 win over Alaves. For 45 minutes, Los Blancos were relentless, with the trio of Vinicius Jr.-Kylian Mbappe-Rodrygo putting the home side 3-0 up. But two late goals from Alaves made things exciting – and almost brought Carlo Ancelotti's side down.

The first goal for Madrid came from an unexpected quarter: Lucas Vazquez headed a pass from Vinicius into the bottom corner. Mbappe increased the lead to 2-0 just before half-time. A quick substitution with Jude Bellingham led to an easy finish for the Blancos' big summer signing.

Rodrygo scored the third goal just after half-time, slotting a ball through the goalkeeper's legs after evading two Alaves defenders far too easily. Endrick almost scored the fourth a few minutes after his intervention, but his deflected shot hit the post.

Alaves, however, held on. Carlos Protesoni scored the first goal, curling a ball onto the post from outside the box. The experienced Kike Garcia scored a second two minutes later to make for a nerve-wracking finish. Los Blancos, however, held on and secured a win with some smart defending that proved to be anything but easy.
