Tyreek Hill hires lawyer to represent George Floyd's family after traffic stop incident

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida. – Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has a new star legal team weeks after the traffic stop that resulted in him being handcuffed and thrown to the ground.

Attorney Devon Jacob is familiar with high-profile cases. He represented the family of George Floyd, who was killed by police.

“It is up to law enforcement to explain what is going on,” Jacob said.

Jacob said he would not elaborate on how the connection between him and Hill came about, but did want to comment on the bodycam video of the incident.

“I'm a former police officer. I defended law enforcement for 10 years,” he said. “It's really quite scary when the person who is most out of control is law enforcement.”

Miami-Dade Police Officer Daniel Torres, who has been on the force for 27 years, was placed on leave following the incident involving Hill.

Torres' employee profile includes numerous commendations, but also allegations of violence. He has been suspended six times.

“In what job can you be suspended six times without being fired?” asked Jacob.

Stedman Stahl, president of the Miami-Dade police union, had an answer to that question.

“The NFL,” Stahl said. “The NFL is one of those places where you can get banned for things like that.”

Stahl continued: “I think it could have been handled differently by both sides. We will learn from this and learn from it. Did he have to be led out of the car in handcuffs? That was at the discretion of the officers.”

Jacob pointed out that Hill's situation was different from that of a non-celebrity person who might have been pulled over.

“This is where the Dolphins were able to step in and get Tyreek released,” Jacob said. “But that doesn't happen to the average citizen.”
