Chesapeake Bay woman accused of murdering her husband gets $100,000 bail – she said she did it to protect her children

46-year-old Heather Heck is accused of allegedly intentionally killing her husband Christopher Heck.

CHESAPEAKE, Virginia – A Chesapeake woman accused of murdering her husband was granted $100,000 bail by a Chesapeake judge Tuesday.

Heather Heck, 46, is charged with two felonies, including second-degree murder and a weapons charge, in connection with the death of her husband, 41-year-old Christopher Heck.

On Friday at around 7:57 p.m., officers were called to the 700 block of Sea Palling Lane after a shooting was reported. When they arrived, police found Christopher Heck suffering from serious gunshot wounds.

Just a few feet away, investigators found his wife, Heather, at the crime scene. According to recently filed court documents, Heather admitted to Chesapeake investigators that she shot her husband twice to “protect the children.”

Records indicate that the couple got into a heated argument because their children were staying overnight. Two of the children are the Heck family, and two others are friends who were staying overnight with them.

Heather told investigators that Christopher became aggressive and told the children to “be quiet or he would make them quiet” because the children were being “loud and disrespectful.” Heather said Christopher then made his way to the second floor of the house where the children lived and Heather ran to get a gun from her bedroom.

At the top of the stairs, Heather admitted to shooting her husband twice and told investigators she was “not sure what Mr. Heck would do to the children.”

Christopher Heck died hours after the shooting. Chesapeake police took Heather Heck into custody and charged her with the murder of her husband.

13News Now has discovered that this is not the first time there has been alleged violence in the Heck household.

In late April, Heather was granted a temporary restraining order against her husband. She asked a judge in Chesapeake for protection because Christopher had threatened to harm her. The order was only valid for four days and expired on May 1, four months before the fatal shooting.

Heather Heck is expected back in court for a preliminary hearing at the end of December.
