Expert advice from a Nevada personal injury lawyer

With the recent increase in car accidents, knowing what to do after the fact is crucial. Sam Mirejovsky, partner at Sam & Ash Injury Law, shared important tips and insights on how to handle the situation effectively.

“Dealing with the aftermath of an accident can be overwhelming. First and foremost, make sure everyone involved is OK,” Mirejovsky said. He stressed the importance of contacting police, sharing information with everyone involved and seeking medical help if needed.

Mirejovsky drew up a list of rules of conduct for the accident scene:

“Ask paramedics or EMTs to examine you. Do NOT say you are unhurt, do not underestimate or trivialize your injuries. Do NOT admit guilt. Do NOT apologize,” he said.

To protect your rights after a car accident, Mirejovsky recommends hiring a personal injury attorney as soon as possible. “Your attorney will work promptly to gather and secure all relevant evidence while ensuring your medical needs are addressed,” he said. “In addition, your legal representative will negotiate with the insurance companies on your behalf, minimizing potential mistreatment.”

Mirejovsky also stressed the importance of keeping all evidence and relevant documents safe. “This includes any photos or video footage from the accident scene, contact details of witnesses and all documentation related to your medical treatment, car repairs and other related costs. Also, keep all correspondence with insurance companies,” he said. “Ideally, these documents should be kept in an organized place.”

Another important step is to follow your doctor's instructions. “This includes undergoing all prescribed diagnostic procedures such as X-rays and MRIs, attending all follow-up appointments and getting enough rest to fully recover,” Mirejovsky said.

He also advised limiting interaction on social media. “In today's digital age, it is common to share life events on social media. But after an accident, your posts could be misunderstood and used against you in the event of a claim. Therefore, it is safest not to share anything related to the accident on social media until your case is finally resolved,” he said.

Regarding the time limit for filing a claim, Mirejovsky noted, “Typically, you have two years from the date of injury.”

By following these guidelines, people involved in an accident can better manage the consequences and protect their legal rights.
