Woman accused of stealing from Charleston County nursing home resident

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – An Irmo woman faces charges of exploitation of a vulnerable adult, according to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

Rose Sherrie Davis, 64, is charged with exploitation of a vulnerable person, financial identity fraud, two counts of card fraud involving financial transactions valued at over $500 within a six-month period, and breach of trust with intent to defraud for $10,000 or more.

Investigators with the Vulnerable Adult and Medicaid Provider Fraud Unit said Davis knowingly conducted unlawful and unauthorized transactions between November 2021 and April 2022, according to Robert Kittle, spokesman for the Attorney General's Office.

Davis is accused of gaining access to the bank account of a vulnerable adult and using $102,109.04 of the victim's assets for her own personal purposes while acting as her power of attorney.

Davis also obtained two of the victim's debit cards and used them to make charges totaling over $500 over a six-month period.

Kittle said the victim was living at NHC Healthcare West Ashley in Charleston at the time of the alleged misconduct.

Investigators became aware of the fraudulent activities through a hotline complaint from a concerned citizen.

Authorities said all charges are capital crimes and Davis could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

Davis was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center and has since been released on $25,000 bail.
