Cheryl Burke warns Phaedra Parks about this trap on 'DWTS' (exclusive)

Cheryl Burke gives Phaedra Parks advice.

Talking to PEOPLE about season 33 of Dancing with the stars, The former professional player gave her predictions for the season. She explained that while the Real Housewives of Atlanta The 50-year-old star has his eye on the Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy and is likely enjoying the process.

“That says a lot about her, in a positive way,” says Burke, 40, of Parks' motivation to win. “She's an entrepreneur. I understand her. I think that's fine when you look at other aspects of life, but on this show, if you only think about wanting to win the mirror ball, you're going to get the opposite. I think it's more about testing her presence, really taking it one step at a time and it's the details that matter.”

She added: “We know she has rhythm, we know she's full of personality, but if she's just focused on winning, she's not going to have personality and you're going to see that. I can see it.”

In the season premiere, Parks told PEOPLE that she didn't ask her fellow Bravolebrity for tips before appearing on the competition show because they didn't take home the Mirrorball trophy.

“I want to approach the situation with a fresh mind,” Parks said. “We talked and they gave me their thoughts on it, but I didn't really want to hear their advice because I have to win. They haven't won yet.”

The Sex, lies and tanning spray The podcast host notes that many of the show's stars want to make their partners proud, and she heard Parks say she “just wants to make Val happy.” However, Burke advises Parks to focus on the task at hand.

“These celebrities are so vulnerable and just want to make us happy, but then their personality slowly starts to disappear,” Burke continues. “And that's what I hope doesn't happen with Phaedra. I hope she just says, the sooner she gets her routine down to earth and the sooner she works on the details, the better she'll do, just one step at a time. Dance like it's your last dance, because you never know.”

Burke also stresses that it is important for all participants this season to stay true to themselves.

“I think the motto of the premiere was simple: don't hold back,” she explains. “Don't hold back. Just cry it out, laugh it out and just do it. Be yourself.”

Burke admits that she understands the pressure and nervousness that comes with dancing in front of live television. She says, “I prefer dancing in front of strangers rather than my colleagues or family because they are my harshest critics.”

When asked who she thinks will win, Burke says she's betting on NFL player Danny Amendola.

“I think he's going to be the underdog,” she says. “Because there are some brilliant moments where you think, 'Yeah.' The chemistry between Witney and Danny, although innocent, was pretty intense.”
