Suspect arrested after allegedly setting fire to ex-girlfriend's car

SAN ANTONIO – A man was arrested on numerous charges after allegedly setting fire to his ex-girlfriend’s car.

On Tuesday, the Bexar County Fire Marshal's Office announced that 29-year-old Rashaad Malik McIntyre was arrested and charged with arson and harassment in connection with a car fire.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. Saturday, Bexar County firefighters and sheriff's deputies responded to calls for a vehicle fire at the corner of White Brush and Whitehorn Drive in far northeast unincorporated Bexar County.

When investigators arrived at the scene, they determined that the fire had probably been started accidentally by a flammable liquid.

The victim told police that she had received threats from McIntyre, her ex-boyfriend.

The authorities were able to establish sufficient suspicion and obtained two arrest warrants and a search warrant against the suspect.

McIntyre was arrested near the corner of Rittiman Road and Northeast Interstate 410 Loop.

During the arrest, officers found a firearm and an extended magazine with 29 rounds of ammunition. Since he was a fugitive from justice at the time of his arrest, he may face further charges.

“Arson offenses are often linked to violent crimes, whether it's domestic violence, gang activity or drug trafficking and organized crime. This is a good example of how to catch an arsonist before their criminal behavior escalates and someone is seriously injured or killed,” said Bexar County Fire Marshal Chris Lopez. “Fire Marshal investigators continue to work on these cases in collaboration with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe.”

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fire Marshal's Office at (210) 335-0300.
