SLCPD: Driver suffers life-threatening injuries in rear-end collision

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, September 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – Police are on the scene of a six-car chain reaction collision Tuesday that left one driver hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

According to Salt Lake City Police, the accident scene was reported at 6:21 p.m. at the intersection of 1700 South and 300 West.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance arrived on scene and transported one passenger to the hospital in critical condition.

All drivers remained on site and are cooperating with the investigation, police said.

“According to preliminary investigation, five vehicles were stopped at a red light at the intersection of 300 West and 1700 South. A small SUV failed to slow down and struck the rear of a car, causing a rear-end collision.”

Due to the severity of the injuries, the station commander on duty requested assistance from the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians. Additionally, 1700 South between 200 West and 300 West is closed.
