MGOLF | Gaels fight for a place in the top 10 at Tindall in Washington

SAMAMISH, Washington. – The Saint Mary's men's golf team traveled to the Pacific Northwest this week to compete in the Tindall, hosted by the University of Washington. The Gaels saved four strokes in the first round and climbed into the top 10 with a final team score of 856 (+4), finishing in 9th place. Connor Rice And Aidan Lee They finished in the top 25 as the team’s best players.

DAY ONE (Rounds 1 and 2)

Saint Mary's finished the opening round with a team score of 288 (+4), with the lowest score coming from Senior Connor Rice. Reis was the only Gael to shoot par or better in his first 18 holes, the next best finisher being a sophomore. Avery Lazarski with 1 over par. Similar to the team's first tournament a few weeks ago, the Gaels fought back in the afternoon round and stayed in the race until the last day.

The attack was led by a third-year member Aidan Lee who scored the best round of the tournament for his team at 4 under par. His round included five birdies and an eagle on the par 5 11th hole. Senior Zack Missigman was the second best finisher with even par and four birdies and helped the Gaels to a second round of 284 (E).

DAY TWO (Last Round)

Saint Mary's started the final round in good form with a total of six birdies in the first five holes. Reis and Missigman combined for four of those six birdies as they both started at 2 under par on the first three holes. As a team, the Gaels got as high as 5 under par on the day, but fell back to par by the end of the round with some costly bogeys and two doubles at the end of the first nine holes. Another round of par kept them in ninth place and finished ahead of hosts Washington.

Reis scored his first round under par of the tournament and finished with the team's lowest score of the day (69 (-2). Lee followed with even par and Lazarski and the transfer newcomer Ian Bruchhauser rounded out the scores at 1 over par. Lee finished the three-round event at 2 under par, in 23rd place, while Reis followed him at 1 under par in 25th place.

Saint Mary's has competed in this event four years in a row and this is their best team finish since 2021 and their second top 10 finish. Full team results can be found below:

 

OUTLOOK

The Gaels will be right back in action next week, competing in the Mark Simpson Invitational, hosted by Colorado. The first round is scheduled for Monday, September 30. Live results and standings from each round can be found at smcgaels.com.
