According to police, Stucki and other officers acted on information that suspect William J. Erwin, 40, may have been armed and dangerous when they arrived at the scene. Officers reportedly found Erwin and the U-Haul and ordered him to surrender at the scene. Instead, investigators say, Erwin fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed.

According to Lake Havasu City police, officers may have heard gunshots as Erwin drove away. Stucki fired his weapon, striking the side of the U-Haul as it left the scene and drove onto State Route 68. Neither Erwin nor the officers involved were injured in the exchange of gunfire.

Investigators say Erwin fled to Laughlin, where he was eventually intercepted and taken into custody by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
