Hurricane Helene's impact on college football this weekend

Although Tropical Storm Helene had not yet reached hurricane strength as of Tuesday night, it could develop into a major hurricane and impact the Week 5 college football schedule.

The storm formed in the Caribbean on Tuesday, and hurricane and storm surge warnings have been issued for parts of Florida due to the potential for it to impact the state later this week. In its latest warning, the National Weather Service predicted the storm will intensify and potentially become a major hurricane as it approaches Florida's Gulf Coast, possibly by late Thursday, which could impact Week 5 of the college football season.

The Florida Gators are off this week, but the Miami Hurricanes are scheduled to host Virginia Tech on Friday night. Florida State travels to Dallas to face SMU in the Mustangs' home opener. While the effects of the hurricane itself do not appear to be affecting the Dallas area, FSU's travel plans could be affected. UCF will host Deion Sanders and Colorado in Orlando, where FOX's “Big Noon Kickoff” will be broadcast live this weekend.
