Eagle Mountain woman arrested after her 4-month-old son dies from multiple head injuries

A 32-year-old woman was arrested after her four-month-old son was found seriously injured and later died.

Police from the Utah County Sheriff's Office said they were called to the Eagle Mountain home at 3:12 a.m. Tuesday after a report of a four-month-old baby bleeding from the ear and having a swollen head.

Paramedics began treating the child before an AirLife helicopter took the baby to Primary Children's in Lehi. They originally planned to take him to Primary Children's in Salt Lake City, but his condition worsened during the helicopter ride.

After he was taken to the hospital, police said “his injuries were too severe and he died.”

Raona Dorothy Mora was arrested and held without bail, police said, saying the baby's injuries did not match Mora's description.

A probable cause statement said Mora claimed she was sleeping on the bed with the baby in her arms and fell on the baby.

The statement said doctors had told police that the boy's injuries could not have been caused by Mora's statements.

Police reported that the baby suffered multiple skull fractures and doctors told police that he was “not survivable.”

Police said the case was under investigation.

Mora is charged with involuntary manslaughter through child abuse, a third-degree felony.
