Motorcyclist identified, driver arrested after fatal accident near Nipomo

(Update, 10:35 p.m.) – A motorcyclist is dead and another rider is in custody following a crash near Nipomo Tuesday afternoon.

Officers identified the motorcyclist as 37-year-old Levi Lopez of Nipomo.

At the time of the accident, Lopez was wearing protective equipment.

The driver, who attempted to flee the scene of the accident and was subsequently arrested, was identified as 36-year-old Genaro Cortez Beltran of Bakersfield.

Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be the cause of the accident.

(Original, 6:25 p.m.) – A motorcyclist was killed in an accident near Nipomo on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. in the area of ​​Hutton Road and Joshua Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Nissan pickup truck was traveling south on Hutton Road when the driver turned directly in front of a northbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The motorcycle hit the passenger side of the truck and the driver was thrown out.

Officials said the truck's occupants fled the scene after the accident but were quickly apprehended by an off-duty CHP officer.

The motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident. His name has not yet been released.
