A six-year-old girl and a 32-year-old woman were killed in a car accident in East Ayrshire.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at around 5pm on the A76 near the junction with the B713 between Catrine and Auchinleck.

According to police, the death of the car's occupant, a six-year-old girl, was confirmed at the scene of the accident.

The driver was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where she died a short time later.

The police are Request for information about the accident involving a white Volkswagen Passat.

Insp. Kenny Malaney said: “Extensive enquiries are currently underway to establish what happened and we are asking anyone who witnessed the accident or may have been in the area at the time of the accident to contact us.”

“I would also like to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage.”

The road was closed for about seven hours for investigations into the incident.
