Jamshidi had moved to the United States with his family after American forces left Afghanistan in 2021 and was an avid wrestler.

He was gunned down near a college dormitory and police are searching for suspect Ryan Romero-Encinas.

Romero-Encinas, 20, is still at large, days after the shooting.

Local reports claimed that a fight broke out on the volleyball courts before shots were fired. Footage of the fight has since surfaced.

Footage obtained by CBS affiliate KOLD-TV shows a man in a white T-shirt and another in a black shirt facing each other on the court.

The two appeared to be pushing each other before the man in the black shirt appeared to lash out.

Other young men in the square tried to prevent the fight from escalating.

Devin Garmo, who was near the court, told the Arizona Daily Star that about 20 to 30 people were involved in the case.

He claimed that a man had insulted a woman during the volleyball game.

Jamshidi was shot and died at the scene – despite all efforts by paramedics.

Garmo claimed he heard about five to six shots.

He said he froze after the first shot and then ran away and hid behind a concrete wall when he heard another.

Meanwhile, university police said 6-foot-tall Romero-Encinas fled the scene and witnesses said he had a gun on him.

HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE

After Jamshidi was identified as the victim, he was given his last respects.

Anthony Birchak, a trainer at the mixed martial arts club ToroTech, said he felt empty after the teenager's death, according to ABC affiliate KGUN.

He praised Jamshidi and described the student as combative and persistent.

“He was just such a caring man,” Birchak said.

Fellow wrestler Christian Marsh also paid tribute to Jamshidi.

“He's a really nice, friendly person. He's really talkative,” he told the outlet.

Abigail Beck, one of Jamshidi's closest friends, said she saw him the day before the shooting.

As KOLD reported, this turned out to be the last time she saw him.

Police said no one else was injured.
