Knoxville man arrested for grand larceny after allegedly stealing car | KNIA KRLS Radio

A Knoxville man was arrested for grand larceny after allegedly stealing a car.

According to court records, on September 15, the Marion County Sheriff's Office took a report of a stolen vehicle from 316 SW 1st Street in Melcher. The vehicle was believed to have been stolen in the early morning hours of September 15. The victim had no clue as to who may have stolen it. On September 23, the Marion County Sheriff's Office was notified that the Pella Police Department found the stolen vehicle unoccupied at 205 Oskaloosa Street. During the investigation, 20-year-old August Cawley was identified by police as the suspected owner of the stolen vehicle.

When Knoxville officers went to Cawley's apartment to arrest him, he did not cooperate, according to police. While inside the third-floor apartment, he was ordered to turn around and put his arms behind his back. Cawley opened an exterior window and a struggle ensued while officers attempted to stop him from jumping out the third-floor window. Cawley fell out the window but was able to get up and flee from officers. After the struggle, an officer noticed his left hand was red and tender to the touch and swollen. Cawley is charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony, and obstruction of public acts with bodily injury.

Cawley pleaded guilty in July to second-degree criminal damage to property from a separate incident for which he received probation. Cawley was then convicted of violating probation for the most recent incident and is in the Marion County Jail.
