The fire was under control by Monday evening, but International Paper reported that Prattville firefighters remained on site since Tuesday to assist the plant's emergency response team in extinguishing the fire.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management said it was not the lead agency but was on site. ADEM staff were on site Tuesday morning to coordinate with first responders and operations personnel and assess the situation.

A spokesman said: “ADEM has confirmed that the water used to fight the fire was captured and not discharged into local waterways. The captured water is being tested to ensure there are no water quality concerns.”

The fire department received reports of ash rain around the plant. The ash and firefighting efforts did not pose a threat to the community, which Facebook post said.
