Third woman dies in car crash in Hialeah, teenager faces charges – NBC 6 South Florida

A family has now lost a third member in a serious car accident in Hialeah; a teenager now faces charges as an adult.

Smeider Rodriguez said his family has hope.

“After this accident claimed three victims and two of them, my mother and my cousin, were buried, we at least had hope that my aunt would survive in one way or another, although with many limitations,” he told our sister channel Telemundo 51 in Spanish.

But those hopes were dashed on Tuesday when 66-year-old Liliana Hernandez Molina took her last breaths at a rehabilitation center where she had been receiving treatment since the April 23 accident.

“For five months she was lying in bed, practically unconscious. She only opened her eyes. It's very hard. And today she died unexpectedly and is the third victim of this catastrophic accident,” said Rodriguez.

According to police, 15-year-old Maykoll Santiesteban was driving over 80 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone while out for a joyride with friends when he collided with an SUV.

Garcia's daughter, 39-year-old Yarina Garcia, and his sister-in-law, 71-year-old Gloria Hernandez, were also killed in the crash.

“The suffering will last forever, but what we are going through now is enormous,” said Hernandez Molina's husband, Bob Garcia. The two were married for 43 years.

“You can never imagine something like this. What is happening to us, to me and to our whole family, is a huge pain. There is no explanation for this. We don't know why, why us,” said Garcia.

Santiesteban is charged with two counts of negligent homicide, reckless driving and three counts of personal injury by driving without a license.

“He killed her through his enormous irresponsibility,” Garcia said.

“They deserve justice. And the family that basically lost half of their family members deserves justice. And our family in Cuba deserves that we fight for justice in this case,” Rodriguez said.
