St. Louis Cardinals vs. Colorado Rockies: Odds, Preview and Prediction – September 25

Unlike most seasons this millennium, the St. Louis Cardinals will not be competing in the playoffs this year. However, St. Louis' fight for a successful season continues on Wednesday away against the Colorado Rockies.

Erick Fedde starts for St. Louis. He entered this season with a 3.38 ERA, but since joining the Cardinals at the trade deadline, his ERA has risen to 4.07.

Top MLB Resources:

The biggest problem Fedde had was pitching on the road. During his time with the Chicago White Sox and Cardinals, he had a 1.94 ERA at home and a 4.50 ERA on the road. He allowed 1.4 home runs per nine innings on the road and just 0.6 home runs per nine innings at home.

The Rockies team Fedde faces has the most home-away hitting splits in the league. The Rockies enter Tuesday's game with an average of over five runs per game at home, compared to 3.5 runs per game on the road. Their batting average is third in the league at home at .268, compared to .217 on the road, which is last among the 30 MLB teams.

Former Cardinals pitcher Austin Gomber starts for the Rockies. Gomber has given up a lot of contact and allowed just 2.1 walks per nine innings, but also just 6.4 strikeouts per nine innings with 1.7 home runs per nine innings for a 4.67 ERA.

Gomber, who leads the National League with 30 total home runs allowed, boosted those numbers to a 4.82 ERA at home with two home runs per nine innings at Coors Field, all despite being helped by a Rockies bullpen that entered Tuesday with a league-worst 5.31 ERA. No other team has a bullpen ERA worse than 4.82.

With the Cardinals ranking 13th in the league with a 3.73 ERA in their bullpen since July 1, Wednesday's duel promises to be a tough fight.
