Woman arrested after breaking into Madison home and cooking herself dinner | News

MADISON, Wisconsin – Madison police arrested a woman Tuesday night after they broke into a downtown home and cooked dinner.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers were called to a home in the 400 block of South Livingston Street after a caller arrived at the home to find all of the lights on and could see a woman walking around inside.

When police arrived, the woman came to the door at officers' direction. Police said she claimed she had been given permission to enter the home and identified the homeowner by name.

The woman reportedly told police that she had met the homeowner in a cafe earlier that day and received the keys to the house.

Police said the woman stayed in the house long enough to cook herself a dinner of shrimp and pasta and searched through mail and other belongings to find out the homeowner's name and make up a story.

The homeowner claimed he never met the woman and did not give her permission to enter the house. The woman was arrested and charged with burglary.

News 3 Now is not releasing the woman's name at this time, as part of its policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court. Click here to learn more about the policyShe is currently being held in the Dane County Jail.
