Charges of attempted murder filed in connection with the Middletown shooting in August

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Hartford man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting he described as premeditated on Liberty Street in August.

The shooting occurred on August 18 near 48 Liberty Street, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been shot in the chest. He was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and survived, a police report said.

According to an incident report, detectives with the Middletown Police Department's Street Crime Unit identified the shooter as 37-year-old Rondell Jackson of Hartford.

According to a police report, investigators determined that Jackson shot the man in the chest at close range after the man started an argument. He tried to shoot the man several times before fleeing the scene. However, the gun malfunctioned after the first shot and he was unable to continue firing.

On Sept. 20, detectives from the Street Crime Unit obtained an arrest warrant, and on Tuesday he was tracked down and arrested in a joint operation with Hartford police, an incident report states.

Jackson was charged with attempted first-degree murder, unlawful discharge of a firearm and illegal possession of a weapon. He was held overnight on $1 million bail and was scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Wednesday.
