THE BUS THEN LEFT OFF THE ROAD AND DROVE INTO A RAVAGE. 37 INMATES WERE ON BOARD AND TEN WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. 27 WENT BACK TO JAIL

Authorities said 10 inmates were hospitalized after heavy fog caused a crash between a prisoner transport bus and a pickup truck near Perkins Wednesday morning. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle about 2.5 miles east of Perkins on State Highway 33 and the driver was unable to see an approaching bus in the fog. Their conditions are unknown. The other 27 inmates were returned to the prison in Cushing, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The driver of the pickup truck did not require hospitalization, officials said. Authorities said 10 inmates were hospitalized after a prisoner transport bus and a pickup truck collided near Perkins Wednesday morning due to thick fog.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle about 2.5 miles east of Perkins on State Highway 33 and the driver could not see an approaching bus in the fog. The pickup truck drove into the front of the prisoner transport bus, causing it to leave the highway and fall into a ravine.

There were 37 inmates on the bus and 10 were taken to area hospitals. Their condition is unknown. The other 27 inmates were returned to the Cushing prison, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The driver of the pickup truck did not need to be taken to a hospital, officials said.
