Who will “Canelo” fight next?

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez's next fight is rumored to take place on Cinco de Mayo weekend in 2025, with three possible opponents in the mix for the pound-for-pound boxing star. So who will Canelo's next fight be, when and where will it take place?

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s next fight: rematch with Dmitry Bivol on Cinco de Mayo weekend?

Although the dust has barely settled from his last fight against Edgar Berlanga, boxing fans are already talking about Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s next fight and who they would like to see the great Mexican face next in the ring.

“Canelo” is the reigning WBC, WBA super and WBO super middleweight champion and is also a boxing legend in every weight class. In his last fight, he easily defeated Berlanga by unanimous decision. Rumors suggest that Canelo's next fight will take place in early 2025 or even on Cinco De Mayo weekend.

It remains to be seen who the 34-year-old will face in his next fight, but it is likely that the bout will take place in the United States, Mexico, or perhaps even Saudi Arabia. The most likely opponent in the opposite corner from “Canelo” is his former opponent Dmitry Bivol.

Bivol, of course, must defeat Artur Beterbiev in their undisputed light heavyweight bout on October 12, and if he can do that, the “Canelo” rematch is likely. Bivol won the first fight relatively easily, but the Mexican will want the chance to right the wrongs of the first fight before hanging up his gloves.

So, if Canelo Alvarez does have his next fight against Bivol, he will likely be a slight underdog at the best UK betting sites, having lost the first fight in 2022. That's something considering “Canelo” has never been an underdog in any of his 66 professional fights to date.

Time will tell what happens and how the story unfolds, but “Canelo” definitely has options as he enters the 21st year of his professional boxing career.

Could Canelo’s next fight be against Terence Crawford or David Benavidez?

It looks like the rematch with Dmitry Bivol is the most likely next fight for “Canelo” if the Russian defeats Artur Beterbiev. Likely venues are Saudi Arabia or the USA. However, if that doesn't happen, names like Terence Crawford and David Benavidez have been brought into play as possible opponents for Canelo Alvarez's next fight.

Depending on whether His Excellency Turki Alalshikh takes on the Mexican or not, it could play a big role in who “Canelo” fights next. Despite being much lighter and smaller, Terence Crawford has expressed his desire to face the big Mexican before the end of his career.

If this fight were to happen, it would undoubtedly be one of the biggest fights in boxing history. The Saudis are the only ones who could potentially raise the huge amount of money for this fight, so it could be a possibility despite the current weight difference being a major factor.

The best boxing betting sites in the UK would put Canelo as the favourite to beat Crawford due to the size difference being so great. However, Bud would rate his chances of beating Canelo highly if he had the opportunity to be in the ring with him.

Another possible fight could be against the undefeated David Benavidez. Many boxing fans believe that “Canelo” is avoiding Benavidez, but it is a fight that makes perfect sense and could be quite feasible for Canelo Alvarez’s next fight.

Not to mention the fact that Saudi boxing boss His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has spoken of his desire to create a superboxing league and “Canelo” would be the perfect man for it due to his worldwide fame.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that Canelo's next fight will be officially announced in the next few months.
