Dustin Poirier suggests a trilogy fight with another UFC star

Dustin Poirier appears to have a fight in mind that many believe will be his last appearance in the UFC Octagon.

Poirier, a former interim lightweight champion, had his third chance at undisputed UFC gold in his last fight against Islam Makhachev, but was forced to submit in the final round of the fight in Newark, NJ, at UFC 302.

“The Diamond” said he might retire from his career immediately after this loss, but Poirier later hinted that he has at least one more big fight ahead of him before he officially decides to hang up his gloves for good.

Fans are eagerly awaiting news on who Poirier will face in his comeback, and just recently the 35-year-old hinted again that it might be time for him and Justin Gaethje to complete their trilogy.

Gaethje, also a former interim lightweight titleholder, was stopped by Poirier in their first meeting in 2018 but got revenge at UFC 291 when he head-kicked “The Diamond” to capture the vacant BMF belt in the night’s main event.

“The Highlight” lost his BMF belt via last-second knockout to Max Holloway at UFC 300 in April, and while Gaethje has yet to agree to Poirier’s desire for a trilogy, few fans would mind seeing the two men face off in the Octagon again.
